“Yoga is the journey of oneself, through oneself, towards oneself.”
- The Bhagavad Gita

Yoga Iyengar, meditation and mutual aid.
Holistic and inclusive approach
My spiritual quest began at the dawn of my twenties. It led me on a pilgrimage through the Americas; I traveled through South America, Central America and North America by land for over two years. I left my homeland, Chile. I left behind everything I knew from birth: my family, friends, heartbreaks, personal spots, the Pacific Sea, my job, basically, Everything. At the time, I remember feeling immense loneliness, even though I was surrounded by people. I felt profound nostalgia. I didn't know who I really was. Previously, I had identified with people and things outside of myself. At the age of romance, I mingled with the men I thought I loved. I looked to them for the love and acceptance that I no longer had for myself. I couldn't find myself, despite my strength and determination. I have benefited from these qualities which have served me well, but the arias of life can, momentarily, alienate those who seek self fulfillment.
Previously, I had identified myself with people and things outside of myself. At the age of love, I merged myself with the men I loved. I sought in them the love and acceptance that I no longer had for myself. I no longer found myself, despite my strength and determination. I have indeed received these qualities that have served me so well, but the arias of life sometimes momentarily distance from themselves those who seek fulfillment.
It is not easy to give up your old landmarks and have to adjust to new references to recreate a new existence, this requires enormous questioning. But I needed to prove to myself that I was capable as an individual inhabiting a woman's body to rebuild a life elsewhere. I set myself this challenge: I wanted to get rid of my fears, my emotional and physical dependencies. I knew that if I managed to rebuild my life starting from scratch, I would always know how to rebuild myself afterwards. I knew internally that this would confirm to me that when we follow destiny with acceptance, as much of the losses as of the gains to be made, we remain integral to what is deepest within us.

The path to oneself

The Iyengar Yoga method
“Our body is our main home.
It is up to us to take care of it, with attention and full awareness" C. Ramirez
The Iyengar yoga method emphasizes alignment of the body. She teaches very precisely how to build postures (asanas) and thus, little by little, to practice them better.
Lyengar yoga brings autonomy to its follower. His practice of asanas develops discipline, consistency, strength, flexibility and endurance, essential skills for maintaining a positive attitude in everyday life.
The teaching of asanas is progressive. For example, the first part of the course is devoted to learning standing postures. Then, we practice a few postures on the ground and the practice ends with a guided relaxation (Savasana).
The practitioner acquires the necessary motivation and knowledge to develop a personal and safe practice. Some supports (blankets, wooden blocks, belts, chairs, ropes) can be used.
The Iyengar yoga method is named in honor of B.K.S Iyengar, a man who devoted his life to the study of yoga. B.k.S Iyengar made yoga known in the West, he wrote several books, which helped to dissect yoga in its entirety. His books have been and always will be a source of inspiration for any practitioner touched by the art, science and philosophy of yoga. His most famous book is “Light on Yoga” an immeasurable legacy.
His daughter Doctor Geeta S.Iyengar, his son Sri Prashant Iyengar and his granddaughter Abhijata Sridhar, continued the path that this man was able to illustrate so well. In December 2018, Geetaji died. Even in these last days, she was able to transmit with love and passion, strength and conviction, her knowledge of yoga to more than 1,500 students from 56 countries around the world.
Prashant Iyengar and Abhijata Sridhar are currently in charge of the RIMYI institute in Pune, India. Institute which saw the birth of this method more than 45 years ago.

"Changes sometimes come as choices, other times they are imposed on us. No matter what they are, changes always come to make us grow and expose us to our reality. They are a magnificent opportunity to align ourselves with our deepest dreams and thus become a better version of ourselves" - C Ramirez
